How to get to Schwarzenberg

By car:

From Germany take the motorway/freeway (Autobahn) Stuttgart - Ulm - Lindau or Munich - Memmingen - Lindau to Bregenz (A). From Bregenz drive towards Dornbirn and follow signs to Bregenzerwald. There are two possibilities: 1) Bregenz - Wolfurt - Schwarzach - Alberschwende - Egg. At Egg turn right to Schwarzenberg or 2) Bregenz - Dornbirn - Bödele/Bregenzerwald. After driving uphill for about 8 km, you will reach Bödele with its impressive panoramic views of the mountains. Remain on the road, which will lead you downhill to Schwarzenberg (5 km).

From Switzerland take the motorway/freeway (Autobahn) Zurich - St.Gallen - St.Margrethen - Au. Exit at Au and cross the border to Lustenau (A). Drive through Dornbirn and follow signs to Bödele/Bregenzerwald. After driving uphill for about 8 km, you will reach Bödele with its impressive panoramic views of the mountains. Remain on the road, which will lead you downhill to Schwarzenberg (5 km).

From Innsbruck take the motorway/freeway (Autobahn) through Arlberg Tunnel - Feldkirch - Dornbirn. Exit at Dornbirn Süd. Drive through Dornbirn and follow signs to Bödele/Bregenzerwald. After driving uphill for about 8 km, you will reach Bödele with its impressive panoramic views of the mountains. Remain on the road, which will lead you downhill to Schwarzenberg (5 km). If you wish to take the scenic route don’t go via the Arlberg Tunnel. Get off the motorway and drive up Arlberg Pass - Flexen Pass - Lech - Warth - Hochtannberg Pass and then downhill into the Bregenzerwald valley through Au - Bezau – Andelsbuch/Bersbuch. At Bersbuch turn left to Schwarzenberg.

From Milan take the motorway/freeway towards Como. Cross the border to Switzerland and take the motorway towards Lugano - Bellizona - San Bernardino - Chur - St.Margrethen. Exit at Au and cross the border to Lustenau (A). Drive through Dornbirn and follow signs to Bödele/Bregenzerwald. After driving uphill for about 8 km, you will reach Bödele with its impressive panoramic views of the mountains. Remain on the road, which will lead you downhill to Schwarzenberg (5 km). For those who wish to enjoy the beautiful scenery, take the mountain route over San Bernardino Pass instead of the tunnel.

By train and bus:

The closest train stations are Dornbirn and Bregenz.

From Switzerland: There is a train every 30 minutes from Zurich airport (Flughafen Zürich) via St.Gallen to St.Margrethen. There are also several EC trains that run straight through to Bregenz. However, most likely you will have to switch trains at St. Gallen and St. Margrethen to get to Bregenz. Ask the conductor for detailed information. (www.sbb.ch)

From Germany: There are several direct trains from Munich (München Hbf) to Bregenz. However, most likely you will have to switch trains once or twice. (www.bahn.de or www.oebb.at)

From Innsbruck: There is a train at least every 2 hours from Innsbruck to Dornbirn. For train schedules in Austria see www.oebb.at.

Bus from Dornbirn to Schwarzenberg: Line 38 (last bus at 18:10) and Line 40 (last bus at 22:35).

Bus from Bregenz to Schwarzenberg: Line 35 (last bus at 19:22). Get off at Egg and transfer to Line 40 for Schwarzenberg.

By plane:

Zurich Airport (www.zurich-airport.com) is 130 km away from Schwarzenberg. There is a train leaving right from the airport. Take a train towards St.Gallen - St.Margrethen - Bregenz (www.sbb.ch).

St.Gallen/Altenrhein Airport in Switzerland (www.stgallen-airport.ch, web site in German only) is 44 km away. There is a free bus to Dornbirn and Bregenz if you fly with Austrian Airlines.

Friedrichshafen Airport in Germany (www.fly-away.de) is 52 km away. There is a bus to Dornbirn and Bregenz except on Saturdays (www.postbus.at).

Munich Airport (www.munich-airport.de) is 210 km away.

Innsbruck Airport (www.innsbruck-airport.com) is 200 km away.
